Mock Trial Registration 2012
On behalf of the Mock Trial Committee of the Massachusetts Bar
Institute, a supporting organization of the Massachusetts Bar
Association, we invite you to
register (requires Adobe Acrobat) for the 27th annual
Mock Trial Program.
The competition begins in January 2012. However, your team may
choose to start working on their case as soon as the materials are
released (during the week of October 24, 2011). THE
DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION is Friday, October 14, 2011. All
registration forms must be accompanied by a check of $125. Purchase
orders are allowed but final payment is due no later than November
4, 2011.
Schools that wish to participate may enter one team that must be
comprised of students currently attending the school and a teacher
coach who is also from that school. There is no upper limit to the
number of students participating in the program; however, there can
be no fewer than six and no more than nine students particpating in
any one trial. We recommend that you secure the assistance of a
local attorney to help your team prepare for their trials. If you
have difficulty with this, please feel free to contact us for assistance.
Additionally, all registered schools are required to attend
one of five mandatory statewide orientation sessions to be held
during the week of October 24, 2011. Orientation sessions
are an opportunity for teachers to get a brief overview of the
case, explanation of the law and to ask questions about team
composition, judging, etc. This year, case packets will be
available on-line ONLY! Registered high school teams will
receive two case packets (one for each of the coaches and one
unbound document which can be used to make extra copies) at the
orientation site.
There have been several changes this year regarding both the
case packets and also the competition schedule.
First, as mentioned on the registration form,
the MBA Mock Trial Program will no longer be
offering each of the teams eleven printed case packets. Each
team will be able to download the case packets via the MBA
website at http://mocktrial.massbar.org/ after
all teacher orientations have been completed. However, Mock
Trial Central will make available for each team:
two case packets (one for each of the coaches), one unbound case packet
document (which can be used to make extra
copies) and twelve extra-large Mock
Trial t-shirts.
